"Women are fascinated by shoes," Viktoria said one day.
She was sitting at her makeup table, a lipstick in hand. She glanced at me.
"You should explore that in your work," she said. "You don't see such variety—or interest—in men's shoes, do you? Wingtips, Oxfords, slip-ons. There you have it. And—of course—"
She waved her hand dismissively.
"—athletic shoes! Worn by non-athletes! And now women are wearing them too. And flip-fops! Ungainly!"
She narrowed her eyes, staring at her face in the mirror.
"High heels are dangerous weapons," she said. "They're called stilettoes for a reason."
She put down the lipstick and turned to me.
"We should talk about it," she said. "One day...."
